Gary Kinsman and Patrizia Gentile provide a disturbing view of the history of queer surveillance and regulation in Canada, while Tom Warner documents the progress and status of more recent struggles for queer rights, and sheds a light on the forces of social conservatism that seek to reverse this progress.

Tom Warner has been a gay activist for over thirty-five years and is the author of the widely acclaimed Never Going Back: A History of Queer Activism in Canada.

Patrizia Gentile is assistant professor in the Pauline Jewett Institute of Women’s and Gender Studies at Carleton University.

Gary Kinsman is the author of The Regulation of Desire and an editor of Sociology for Changing the World. He is a professor in the Sociology Department at Laurentian University, Sudbury.
