Chairperson’s Presentation on Radical Public Policy

Earlier this week Queer Ontario Chairperson Nick Mulé gave a presentation on “Radical Inclusivity in Policy Work: Public Policy and Social Movements” to Rainbow Health Ontario’s Public Policy Institute.  The presentation was based on a combination of Nick’s past activism, current social policy research, and current radical policy activism with Queer Ontario.

The Standing Committee on Social Policy at Queen’s Park is holding public hearings today (in Committee Room 1)  to receive thoughts, concerns, and commentary on Bill 33, also known as Toby’s Act. The bill seeks to amend the Ontario Human Rights Code to include ‘gender identity’ and ‘gender expression’ as protected grounds: http://www.ontla.on.ca/web/bills/bills_detail.do?locale=en&BillID=2574

The Bill will be given its third and final reading on Wednesday, June 13 at 9:00 am. Given its unanimous approval during second reading, the Bill is expected to pass this third time around with very few, if any, opposition.
